Setting a pauree from the Japji Sahib to music requires a certain affinity with Sikh musical tradition. Even if it proves impossible for a European to master both the pronunciation and the rhythmic inflection of the accompaniment, this work consists of letting bhakti, the devotional vibration, guide the inspiration. Here, I used the harmonium and electronic tablas to get as close as possible to the vibrations felt at the Golden Temple. The arrangement followed this spirit and gradually took on a freer, more cinematic scope, less typically Sikh, but still managing to retain the essence of the mantra revealed to Guru Nanak Dev Ji.

From the second track onwards, we rediscover the light, pop-infused feel of Mahadev's previous albums and the strong influence of the Beatles and poetic hip hop. Rosalyne's voice continues to lighten the mood and propel this sonic project towards the destinations it promises to reach.

Jap Man takes its name from the Kirtan Opera produced by Mahadev, which tells the epic tale of a musician-gardener dispossessed of his land. This title borrows the Sikh mantra "Jap Man sat Nam sada Sat Nam" and punctuates the self-presentation of a rebellious Jap Man, displaying his connection to the divine mother and always equipped with a watering can, a harmless weapon but always ready to shower the egotistical inflammations of the being hungry for strong sensations.

I found myself on holiday in Sardinia with family and friends. For a bhakti musician, holidays are above all a precious time to play, compose, and record bhakti music. That's how our dear departed Philippo Franchini joined me on this track, contributing vocals and guitar. The original lyrics were "God is my Breath, Breath is my God." But of course, Philippo's bhakti touch transformed "God" into "Love" in the first verse, and that made all the difference. Philippo's vocal solo will forever remain in the Akashic Records of spirit pop music.

A track that joined the album at the last minute. The composition dated back to the summer of 2025, but I hadn't found the right key or regained the dexterity in my right hand to hold the fingerpicking. Then one morning, everything fell into place naturally. I sent the files to Stacie Flesher, who recorded her Provo drums in Utah, and then the magical Sachveer Singh recorded Jérôme Flamand's bass clarinet in Paris, a few days before mixing the project. Rakhe Rakhanhar is a guiding mantra that sometimes needs to be composed several times before reaching the desired result.

With "Reiki" we return to the Jap Man Opera project, when the Divine Mother brings the hero back to life. The voices of Ananda Kanta and Rosalyne provide a welcome feminine touch to this moment in the album, and the music, composed primarily with Nada healing sounds, envelops the narrative in broad, healing waves.

An ode to Guru Ram Das, Lord of meditation, kindness, and devotion. The arrangement sounds like a Christmas carol, and the choirs, recorded during a bhakti night at the Jaya space in Paris, seem to perfectly capture the spiritual communion of the cacao ceremony. The piano and keyboards are played by the exceptionally talented Le Mans-based musician Ronan Hilaireau. The therapeutic bells are played with Joseph Schmidlin.

A piece that can accommodate the different traditions of bhakti yoga, that was the initial objective of Hari Om Maria. The generosity of GuruGanesha Singh, his voice and his solo guitars, the crystalline interventions of Madhurai Sumhara and Kim, the sitar of Narendra, all contribute to transforming this divine hotch potch into Satsang in the broadest sense of the term, that is to say, sitting and singing in the company of the sages.

This famous mantra, meaning "We are ourselves, we are God," is a classic in Kundalini Yoga. I used to often begin my Shakti Kirtan with this mantra, and I wanted to record this version. The 6/8 rhythm of the electronic tabla enhances the trance-inducing potential of this version, which can be useful during Kundalini Yoga meditation or for graceful celestial communications.

Upon learning that the text of this Sloka is attributed to Adi Shankara, the founder of Advaita Vedanta, I was delighted to have included this illustrious sage in the bhakti Spirit album. Indeed, Shankaracharya revived Sanatam Dharma in an India gripped by Buddhism and translated and commented on numerous Upanishads as well as the Bhagavad Gita. Ligastakam is an ode to Shiva Shakti, the parents of Tantra, whose practice is inherent in Bhakti Yoga.

When my Sikh Nihang friends shared this mantra with me, the music came spontaneously. Without going so far as to claim to have channeled the musical spirit of Punjab, I felt very close to what I had felt a few months earlier when I spent a few days in Anandpur Sahib, during and after the Hola Mohola celebrations.

This artistic endeavor needed to conclude with an angelic moment of relaxation, and this was made possible thanks to Rosalyne's unique performance in the opera Jap Man. Interpreting the Flower of Life with all the freshness that her recent blossoming could offer, the album can be allowed to close on Rosalyne's ethereal notes, the Flower of Life, embalming the final sounds of this small musical cathedral.
